Recently, I had a déjà-vu reminding me of a time I spent in Sandwich, Kent. Many years ago, I was an intern in a little consulting company, and the business owners loved to go out for breakfast, later for lunch, then for an afternoon snack and finally, for dinner. I don’t remember exactly, which was their favorite pub, but most probably it was the Crispin Inn, on High Street near river Stour. While all other pubs in town had some gaming machines, The Crispin Inn had none. Instead, they had a sign at the door saying:

“No slot machines. We are a talking pub.”

And they were. I had a splendid time there, and, actually, this was the place I lost my fear of talking English. Because… they were a talking pub, so I had lot’s of practice.
