I chose to visit the wonderful Abel Tasman national park the easy way: Doing a day hike embedded in a cruise complemented. by a free pick up service from my accomodation. I like businesses who are able to think like their customers and offer exactly the right services. The NZ travel industry seems to have understood what travellers need – maybe this is because they live an outdoor life themselves.

This morning we got picked up by a cool guy named Marc, who told us a little bit about the region while driving. At the marina, he then switched to becoming a kayak instructor, accompanying groups kayaking the Abel Tasman (which is a very good idea to do, b.t.w.). After we came back from our hike, Marc transformed to an on board barista, serving coffee. Finally, he got back to bus driver, safely delivering us back to where he had picked us up this morning. Only on thing he seems not like to do: Harvesting hop, because it is dirty work with scratchy plants an slimy sap getting all over you. He said: “Harvesting hop is a brilliant job fore somebody else to do.”

The hike between Medlands Beach and Anchorage, b.t.w., is very beautiful, offering impressive views of the bays and beaches down below while leading through shady cliff forest.
